Nigerian Military School (NMS) Zaria Old Students (Set 74-79) Pledge to Continue Nation-Building Efforts
Old students of the Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria, from the set of 1974-1979, have committed to further contributing to nation-building by addressing Nigeria’s challenges with practical solutions.
Colonel Alphonsus Ayim (retired), Chairman of the set, reaffirmed the alumni’s dedication to their alma mater and the nation during their Golden Anniversary celebration and reunion held in Abuja over the weekend.
Ayim highlighted, “Over the past fifty years, members of our set have made significant contributions to nation-building in various capacities, including as senior retired officers, Major Generals, Rear Admirals, medical doctors, and professors. We have supported NMS as a way of giving back, and for this anniversary, we have allocated two million naira towards a library project for the school.”
Addressing his fellow alumni, Ayim emphasized the importance of maintaining their health and continuing their contributions. “At our age, it is crucial to focus on our health and continue our efforts. We have discussed ageing-related issues that will benefit us all,” he said.
Major General Chris Olukolade, former spokesman for the Nigerian military, expressed optimism about the set’s ongoing contributions. “We celebrate our 50th year together and the various ways we have contributed to national development. This gathering brings together many of us from around the world to reflect on our shared journey.”
Dr. Reuben Jigah, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Golden Anniversary, spoke about the enduring bonds among the set members. “This milestone celebrates our friendship and the legacy of our alma mater. Let us renew our connections, cherish our time together, and look forward to a brighter future,” he urged.
Professor Canice Asonye from the University of Benin presented a lecture on health challenges associated with ageing, such as prostate cancer and diabetes. He advised members to focus on their diets, undergo regular medical checkups, and engage in beneficial physical exercises.
The event underscored the set’s commitment to their alma mater and their ongoing role in national development, celebrating both their past achievements and future aspirations.
