Nigerian cross-dresser Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye Olanrewaju, recently clarified that he is not an ex-convict despite having served time in prison. In an interview on comedian Isbae U’s show, “Curiosity Made Me Ask,” Bobrisky addressed his legal troubles and the public perception surrounding them.
During the podcast, Bobrisky explained that he couldn’t be considered an ex-convict because his time behind bars was due to spraying money, a non-criminal act. He stated, “I’m not an ex-convict because I can’t be convicted for spraying money. So, I won’t accept it.”
Bobrisky was released on August 5, 2024, after serving a six-month sentence for abusing the naira at parties by spraying money, which is considered a violation in Nigeria. Reflecting on his experience, Bobrisky compared his jail term to a vacation, saying, “I see my jail term as a vacation. You know, on vacation, you go and rest. I’ve been working so hard, and I think their decision was okay for me.”
When asked if he would consider returning to prison, Bobrisky expressed openness to the idea of a short-term stay, adding, “The reason I would love to go again is that these people really want to break me. I have never seen anywhere you are going to sentence someone to prison for spraying money.”
Despite his experience, Bobrisky remains defiant about his actions, stating he would continue spraying dollars, emphasizing, “It’s my money. I’m not owing anybody money. I did not steal money, did not kidnap, did not rape. I did not kill anybody. Spent my own hard-earned money, and I was sentenced to where we have a lot of criminals.”
Bobrisky’s remarks highlight his resilience and determination to continue living his chosen lifestyle despite facing legal challenges and societal scrutiny.
