Academy and Engineering Bodies Praise Dangote Refinery’s Standards
Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, has announced that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery will start producing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and make it available to the market by the first week of September 2024. This assurance came during a recent assessment tour by several prominent engineering organizations.
The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAE) and other engineering bodies, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), have praised the refinery for its adherence to world-class standards in technology and engineering innovation. The refinery’s construction has been recognized for its high engineering standards, with tools and equipment meeting European specifications.
NAE President Prof. Rahamon Adisa Bello, who was represented by the immediate past president, Prof. Azikiwe Onwualu, led the delegation of engineers on a technical visit to the refinery. Bello highlighted that the engineering facilities at the refinery comply with European Union standards, calling it “probably the highest you can think about engineering standards in the world.” He emphasized the importance of adhering to such standards to ensure the quality of the end product and praised the refinery’s excellent quality assurance laboratories.
Sadiq Zubair, President of COREN, remarked that the involvement of local experts in the refinery project demonstrates a commitment to enhancing the competence and participation of Nigerian engineers in major projects. He expressed confidence that the refinery would significantly improve the sector and assured support from engineering bodies for the project’s success.
Mrs. Margaret Oguntala, President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, described the refinery as a monumental investment equipped with cutting-edge technology. She expressed optimism that the project symbolizes a brighter future for Nigeria’s industrial sector.
