She changed into clean clothes at home and went to church to attend Bible school with her children and Gores\’ older daughter before going out to lunch with friends. Montgomery also threw away the shoes she was wearing when she murdered Gore.

Betty Gore\’s next-door neighbors discovered the bloody crime scene

Two of Gore\’s neighbors, Lester Gayler and Richard Parker, discovered her body and the gruesome crime scene at her home. The two allegedly walked over to the Gores\’ house after getting calls from Betty\’s husband, Allan Gore, who became concerned about her whereabouts when she did not return his calls.

Gayler described the crime scene as the most horrifying thing he had ever seen. He recalls seeing ax marks as high as the roof and blood everywhere. Lester also remembered seeing Montgomery the next day and remarked that she seemed unaffected by the incident.
