Kogi PDP Responds Fiercely to Dino Melaye’s Remarks, Calls for His Suspension
The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a sharp rebuke to Dino Melaye, following his recent comment that the party is “dead.” In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday, the party’s elders, led by Alhaji Ibrahim Dansofo, criticized Melaye’s political standing, suggesting his influence has diminished so severely that he would struggle to win even a local councilor position.
The statement points to Melaye’s lack of electoral success, highlighting his failure to secure victory in his own polling unit during his bid for the PDP governorship ticket. The Kogi PDP described Melaye as a “liability” to the party, alleging that his continued presence serves only to negotiate personal advantages with the ruling party rather than make any meaningful contribution to the PDP’s goals.
“Senator Melaye has become a burden to the party,” the statement declared. It also criticized Melaye for his attacks on the current party leadership, calling his accusations hypocritical. The statement pointed out that despite the party’s knowledge of his electoral weaknesses, Melaye was still granted the governorship ticket, a decision they now view as a major error contributing to the party’s difficulties.
Furthermore, the Kogi PDP urged key figures in the party, including former President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, to reassess their support for Melaye. They called for these leaders to distance themselves from someone they described as a “bondage” and a “big-time liability.”
In a significant move, the Kogi PDP also called on the local executive committee in Ijumu to begin suspension proceedings against Melaye. They emphasized the importance of this action to restore the party’s integrity and focus on developing robust leadership that can strengthen their political position in Kogi State.
