Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna Flags Off Key Road Project Amid Security Improvements in Birnin Gwari
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has announced significant progress in stabilizing security in Birnin Gwari and its surrounding areas, in collaboration with security agencies. This achievement comes as he flagged off a 35.6-kilometer road project designed to connect 62 agrarian communities within the local government area, a move seen as a crucial step towards economic revitalization.
Governor Sani emphasized that the concerted security efforts in the once-troubled local government area have been yielding positive results. He commended the various security agencies working in Birnin Gwari and its environs for maintaining stability, particularly along the highway, for the past six months.
“The area has been stable, especially on the highway, in the last six months,” Governor Sani stated, highlighting the efforts made by the state government and security forces to restore peace to the region.
According to reports by the Nigerian Tribune, relative peace has indeed returned to many communities along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari route. Farmers have resumed their activities, cultivating their fields, a sign of growing confidence in the region’s security situation.
Governor Sani expressed optimism that continued security operations will help restore Birnin Gwari’s economic vitality in the near future. He underscored the importance of infrastructure development in achieving this goal, particularly the 35.6-kilometer road project, which will link several communities from Bagoma to Gagumi through Ungwan Fari, Idi Labo, Awaro, Tashan Keji, and Sabon Layi. This new road is expected to significantly improve access for 62 farming communities to local markets.
“My presence here to flag off the reconstruction of this 35.6km road marks the beginning of the restoration of peace and stability to this long-suffering and troubled Local Government,” Governor Sani remarked. “Birnin Gwari Local Government is a major gateway to many parts of Nigeria, rich in resources, with vast mineral deposits and fertile land for farming.”
He also highlighted the strategic importance of the region, noting that despite its challenges, Birnin Gwari has a large forest area that has posed security concerns but also offers potential for development. “We are making progress in our efforts to stabilize the situation,” he assured.
Governor Sani reiterated his administration’s commitment to rural transformation, which aims to boost local economies, reduce rural-urban migration, and improve the overall quality of life in rural areas. He outlined several initiatives under the Rural Transformation Drive, including addressing infrastructure deficits, enhancing agriculture, and building roads that facilitate economic activities and enable swift response by security agencies.
“Since taking office in 2023, we have initiated the construction of 62 roads across Kaduna State, covering a total of 817 kilometers. Some of these roads have been completed and commissioned, while others are nearing completion,” Governor Sani explained. “When completed, this road will significantly improve the social and economic conditions of the people, enhancing the movement of people and agricultural produce from farms to markets, reducing post-harvest losses, and improving community security.”
The Governor also noted that the construction phase would create direct and indirect jobs, further contributing to the local economy.
The Emir of Birnin Gwari, Malam Zubair Jibril Maigwari II, expressed his gratitude to Governor Sani and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their commitment to fulfilling their promises of bringing development to the long-neglected Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. He was particularly pleased with President Tinubu’s directive to reconstruct the dilapidated Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway, a critical infrastructure project for the region.
The ongoing efforts by the Kaduna State government, in collaboration with federal authorities and local leaders, reflect a comprehensive approach to restoring peace, fostering economic growth, and improving the quality of life for residents in Birnin Gwari and beyond.
